Sanctification

J.A. Matteson

To know the right and to do it is your duty in Christ Jesus. "For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is you abstain from... (1 Thess. 4:3). Meditations of the heart align with the correlation of the will in response to the revealed word of correction. Let the word of God inform your mind and inclinations toward holiness, forsaking all that is opposed to the righteousness of Christ. Resist the temptation as you go along to measure your progress in Christ by the possession of and employment of His gifts. You teach others, but do you teach yourself? You confront blatant sin in your brother yet subtly justify immorality in your own heart. The measure of the LORD of progress in grace is the fruit of His Spirit; viz., love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). Beseech the LORD daily to reveal anything in you hindering His Spirit from manifesting more fruit and you will be fulfilling the LORD's will of sanctification, your progress in grace being evident to all, to the praise and glory of His name.
